Has anyone seen any REAL difference on their cars (like water beading up) after driving through one of these wax washes? I always just use the basic wash because I'm quite skeptical that anything sprayed on and rinsed off could possibly stick to the car at all.

I've been driving a long while. From my experience, yes, the wax from those sprayers will bead water. However, it doesn't last long, and if you get it on the car's glass, it leaves a film that takes a while to get off. While I don't work for any company that makes waxes, over the years, I've tried a number of products, from Mothers Gold, to Nu-Finish. I've learned that no product can really guarantee that it will truly last a year unless your car is garage kept 90% of the time. I used to love the Nu-Finish commercials, but after trying it on an older car that was kept outside most of the time, I didn't notice enough difference to justify their claims. For a while though it did look nice. Currently, I do a great wash and wax on my car every spring and fall. Right now I use Meguiar's Gold liquid wax (shake the bottle when you use it though,) and then once or twice a month, I touch it up with the Meguiar's NXT Spray Wax. This is a nice touch up wax that sprays on a dry car and gives it a few weeks of looking like a fresh wax job again. It's easy to use, and is found about everywhere, Wal-Mart, AutoZone, Advance, etc. Another good line that I like and my father swears by is the Eagle One Nano-tech stuff. It looks great and goes on easy. I find that it wears off way too fast for my tastes though. I don't want to have to re-wax my car (even if it is easy) every 3-4 weeks. I want to be able to just hit the rough spots and be done with it. This is also easy to find just about anywhere. A detailer once told me he used to use motor oil (new) on his cars and buff that in before a coat of wax. This ensured a great shine, and good water beading. Regardless of what you choose to use, I don't recommend the car wash waxes. They don't last long, and they are a pain to get off of your car's glass surfaces.

Whenever I think of car washes and auto detailers, the old song "Working at the Car Wash" pops into my head or I am reminded of the recent Disney movie where the "Shark Slayer" comes out of obscurity from working at a car wash to save the town from the gang of sharks.

Admittedly, the idea of work in detailer jobs doesn't have the greatest appeal to some, it can still provide a stable income and career path for many.

Most of these functions require an apprentice period where learing the chemicals, tools, equipment and techniques can become invaluable as you expand your career and become a master at the trade.

Many detailing firms also provide outsourced services to auto dealerships. These companies can provide the full-spectrum of services and are excellent proving grounds for learning about detailer jobs and learning the trade - and becoming part of an organization that can provide a career path to site and area management. Many of these firms are growing rapidly and can provide lucrative job opportunities for ethical, hard-working employees - especially of you have management or supervisory experience.

A third alternative is to start your own detailing business. While some have made this one-person venture a success, most have found it a capital-intensive experience requiring lot's of equipment, chemicals and knowledge. If you want to do the one-off detailing job every one in a while, that's fine, but building a full-blown business requires lot's of effort and investment.

If you are looking for a lucrative trade, auto detailer jobs can be a rewarding career move for many. Hi, I'm looking to start my own company out of college. I am looking to start a mobile auto detailing company where we detail customers cars at their work locations (where they park their car). Our operations are fully contained with water etc. Would you be interested in a service like this that would come and detail your car where you usually park while you work? Also would you be willing to pay about $10 more for the convenience of this service. For example if a regular car wash that you go to charges $20 for a car wash service (basic wash & wax or vacuum), we would likely charge $28-30 since we don't have the volume they do. Also how often would you use this service? I greatly appreciate the feedback!!

I find this to be a great idea. I would appreciate leaving work to find my car nice and clean. It seems it would also add some joy to getting your car washed since when you go through a car wash, you don't get to see the results until you get home (after driving through dirty streets and getting droppings thrown at you by that flock of birds). If you can find a cost effective way to implement this idea I believe you would have a strong business on your hands.

They're company parking lots so their car would only be unlocked with us not like its parked in public parking. oh and to answer why not homes, with the time it takes to get to one home to anouther it kills you due to gas(w/ travel) and paying employees for travel time) it just isnt worth it. Some do it but it can be tough and risky we carry our own filtered water (200gals) lasts us a day then we fill up again. Its cheap too!

i have for years, but make sure you check out all the laws for your city, in reno, with the water problem we have, there have been fines etc, you would want to make sure you have it all in place before you open, trust me you will do great, make sure you are are always there on the same days etc, because people will become aware that your coming and then there will more washes when you go back, remember quality matters when it comes to car washes, oh dont forget to be the people person, your buz will be the bomb trust me i ment make sure you contact the city, they water issues we have here in reno, there is something about water being on the ground, and there might be others in town (good for you, its best to have others to compare to) but they to could have been writen up by the city and you just dont know about it, but custmer service is where you will win or lose, trust me, going to them means you have to be on your toes even more

Personally I would not use it because I just wash my car at home and I don't make a lot of $. That $28.95 buys a couple days worth of groceries, for me! However, I think your service would be used by more "upscale" customers. I could see someone like my boss loving your service. Some people hold how their car looks in high importance but don't have time to wash it themselves. This is the market you want, I think. Good luck!

I work near the capitol building in Sacramento where we have thousands of state employees and the legislature members parked all day. The biggest problem I see is the access to the interior of the car and water drainage. If you are bonded and can get people to leave you their keys so you can move the car to an area with drainage, you may have a market. Meanwhile, why don't you offer an "outside wash" for those who want to clean the exterior ? You can bill them online .
